About C1ODBuilding the infrastructure for a more connected Open Data future.
Caspian One Open Data (C1OD) is a company with a global perspective and operating since 2020 delivering Open Data solutions. We bring together technology, financial services expertise and deep industry insight to help shape the future of connected financial ecosystems.
Open Banking was never the destination
C1OD was founded on the belief that the value of Open Data extends far beyond regulatory compliance. Well ahead of Canada's move towards regulated Consumer-Driven Banking or open banking, we saw the opportunity to help financial institutions actively participate in connected data ecosystems and realize the value that participation could create.
Our mission
Our aim is to equip financial institutions with the infrastructure, strategic frameworks, and trusted ecosystem partnerships they need to thrive in a new era of connected financial services and realize the opportunities of Open Data.
Beyond data sharing
Rather than simply enabling organizations to provide data, we help them securely provide and consume data, services and capabilities, extending their reach, creating new opportunities, and delivering greater value for their customers.
Early foundations
Our early work in Canada included delivering an FDX-based Open Banking solution for a Canadian Big Five bank and contributing insight as Canada's approach to Open Banking and Consumer-Driven Banking evolved.
Live in Canada
In 2024, C1OD was selected through CUCC's competitive RFP to support Canada's credit union system. Today, our Open Data platform is live with Canadian credit unions, demonstrating the value of participation well ahead of regulatory requirements.

Caspian One Foundations
2004
-
Our story begins with Caspian One, our parent company, founded as a specialist technology business with deep expertise across financial services and global capital markets. That foundation brought together the technology, industry knowledge and experience from which C1OD would later grow.
From the outset, the focus extended beyond regulatory compliance, exploring how financial institutions could actively participate in and benefit from connected data ecosystems.
2010
-
Caspian One established its presence in the Canadian financial services market, bringing global technology and financial services experience to some of Canada's leading financial institutions.
From the outset, the focus extended beyond regulatory compliance, exploring how financial institutions could actively participate in and benefit from connected data ecosystems.

2023
-
Following a competitive RFP process, the Large Credit Union Coalition (LCUC) selected Caspian One as its preferred partner to deliver the Credit Union System Open Banking Solution for the Canadian market.
The solution was designed around both provider and consumer participation, supported by consent lifecycle management and shared services, establishing the foundations for a collaborative credit union open banking platform.
2024
-
First West, Prospera, Meridian, Affinity and Libro announced their strategic partnership with Caspian One, moving the initiative from a shared vision towards a growing credit union ecosystem.
Together, the five credit unions represented more than one million members and demonstrated an early commitment to open banking participation well ahead of Canada's regulatory implementation.
-
What began as specialist Open Banking expertise within Caspian One evolved into Caspian One Open Data. Drawing on our experience of Open Banking globally, we recognized that its potential extended far beyond enabling financial institutions to meet data-sharing requirements.
We wanted financial institutions to gain greater value from participation, rather than simply becoming passive providers of data that others could use to build new services and customer relationships. This led to a broader Open Data vision: creating trusted ecosystems where financial institutions can both provide and consume data, services and capabilities, build new partnerships, extend their reach and create value for their own customers.
C1OD was established as a dedicated business to pursue that vision, bringing together the infrastructure, expertise and ecosystem partnerships needed to make it possible.
Caspian One Open Data Today
2025
-
The vision moved into production.
C1OD launched a live, FDX-compliant Open Data ecosystem in North America, operational with Canadian credit unions First West, Prospera and Libro. The deployment enabled secure, customer-permissioned financial data sharing using the FDX standard, while Canada was still progressing towards implementation of its regulatory framework.
-
The ecosystem began demonstrating the broader opportunity C1OD had envisioned from the outset, connecting financial institutions not only to data, but to services and capabilities from other ecosystem participants.
The introduction of services such as Interac Verification Service provided a practical example of how credit unions could consume capabilities through the ecosystem to enhance the services available to their members.
2026
-
C1OD CEO Lewis Poe was elected to the Financial Data Exchange (FDX) Board of Directors, following his involvement with the FDX Canadian Task Force and Security Working Group.
His appointment gives C1OD a voice within the organization developing the standards that support interoperable, customer-permissioned financial data sharing across North America, bringing practical experience from live implementations to the table.
-
C1OD entered a strategic partnership with CGI to help Canadian credit unions move from Open Banking planning to implementation and long-term operation.
With integration to the DNA core banking platform already completed and further integrations underway, the partnership expands the infrastructure and implementation capabilities available to institutions preparing for Consumer-Driven Banking.
-
C1OD partnered with Collabria to create a more streamlined way for Canadian credit unions to access and integrate credit card data into their digital environments. Using C1OD's connect once, deploy to many model, credit unions can connect to Collabria through the Open Data ecosystem rather than building and maintaining multiple one-off integrations, reducing complexity and creating a scalable foundation for future services and capabilities.
-
C1OD partnered with VeriPark to embed Open Data capabilities directly into its omni-channel digital banking and customer experience solutions. The partnership enables financial institutions to use consent-driven financial data across areas such as onboarding, lending and personalized wealth management.
The Journey Continues
Today
C1OD has evolved from specialist Open Data work within Caspian One into a live Open Data ecosystem supporting financial institutions, technology providers and partners across North America.
And the original ambition remains the same: to go beyond enabling data sharing and create an environment where organizations can securely provide and consume data, services and capabilities, extend their reach and realize greater value from ecosystem participation.
